SPAN315
Students perform introductory translation assignments from Spanish to English and vice versa. They develop an understanding of translation theory through reading and class discussion and come to understand communicative translation and compare it to a direct, word-for-word approach. Problematic grammatical, discursive, and pragmatic issues are analyzed and the grammar of Spanish is reviewed in detail. Taught in Spanish.
course description: undoubtedly one of the most interesting classes I have taken is this, this class was very dynamic and fun. I learned many things in this class, translating is one of the most fascinating things. In this class I learned the basics of a translation, for example not to do a literal translation but to make a translation according to the context we are doing to make it more understandable. I learned that to make a translation we have to have knowledge of the language that you are translating, as well as to know about the culture and everything that comes from the country of the language you are speaking. I learned the difference between the interpretation and the translation that are two very different things. In class we did many translation exercises that helped me improve my language professionally.
