I emigrated to the United States at the age of 14, when I arrived in this country I knew that my life would have a big change. My name is Lizbeth Aguilar, I was born in Veracruz, Mexico and when I came to the United States I went to my Freshman year at Gonzales high school. One of my first difficulties was learning the language at school, which was very difficult. also, Facing a new culture was a very difficult challenge because my customs were completely different from those of this country. After almost 11 years living in the United States I can say that growing between two cultures is very incredible, I have learned to be a variable person and have an open mind to learn many new things which make us have new opportunities in life.
Being the third daughter of 4 brothers and the first in the family to have a university education is a pride for me and my family to have achieved it. First of all, when I graduate from high school I made the decision to go to Hartnell Community College in Salinas Ca. And start studying one of my greatest dreams, which is to be a teacher of special education (ECE). However, in order to achieve that, I had to take Spanish classes as a requirement to complete my general education, when I took my first Spanish class with the teacher Marilu. I loved that class. As a result of that, I made the decision to change my career to become a Spanish teacher because I knew that was what I wanted. After completing my 2 years at Hartnell, I graduated with my AA degree in Spanish. Thereafter, another great decision I made was to transfer to CSU Monterey Bay University and get a B.A as a Spanish teacher, after two years of effort and sacrifice I have achieved this goal. During these two years I was able to enjoy every moment and I had the best teachers from whom I learned too much. In life it is difficult to make decisions, many times we have to sacrifice many things to achieve what we want, but in the end everything is worth it.
